What's the Catch?

There's no catch but there are some rules. Only 3 or 4 groups or artists will be chosen this year for this promotion. Simply put, this stuff takes time to plan, shoot, build and deploy and so each artist will be given dedicated attention to help promote their music and brand.

• Artist selection will be geared toward ages 12-30 and who are currently un-signed under a music contract.
• Music must be original (no cover songs) and must be completely your own
• MP3 submittals (or M4A file type) must contain the entire song in high quality format
• Video production will be limited to 2 locations and is expected to be shot in 1 weekend
• Your video will be shot on broadcast quality cameras in order to facilitate a cost-effective production (no HD for this promotion)
• Minors (under 18) must have a parent or guardian with them at all times during planning, shooting and at agreement signing
• Actors in your video can be anyone (yourself, friends or family) but must comply with the rules of the program and site director
• Production will be managed so everyone involved must be on time and willing to take direction in order to ensure an effecient schedule
• Production will be mindful of private and public property including noise, litter, wildlife, vegetation and may involve getting a city permit
• No personal stunts or actions involving cars, guns or fire. (If a car scene is needed, we may decide to green screen the background on a parked car and add motion footage later)
• No sexually suggestive material will be shot under this program (use your acting or dance talent, lyrics and music to captivate your audience)
• Artists, parents and video actors are responsible for their own actions and safety

How are artists and musicians chosen?

Submittals will be evaluated based on several criteria including:

Song Originality (you can't sing someone else's song or utilize someone else's music for your lyrics)
Song Structure (does your song contain a recognizable and logical structure with verses, a chorus, breaks, etc.)
Lyrics must be audible (if the words cannot be interpreted and understood, it fails the test)
Lyrics must be clean (avoid or "bleep out" any bad words. Think "PG" when marketing your talent and brand)
Song Narrative cannot demean, target or negatively portray any race, gender, sexual orientation or religious group
Overall Feasibility of your video ideas (though addtional ideas may be offered, keep in mind that this is a small production so jumping out of a plane or shooting underwater is out)
You can't be shy (artist(s) must be willing to perform the song at some level or at some point in the video so the audience knows who's singing it

Next Steps

Submit your music file, photo and bio securely via this YouSendit.com FTP Drop Box. Use a similar file name for each file you submit (ie. Sunshine.mp3, Sunshine.doc).  Allow 1-2 weeks for your submittal to be evaluated.  You may be asked for addtional information during the submission / qualification process. There may be many tangible entries that are received but keep in mind that only a small hand full can be accepted. If you have additional questions, please use the contact form on this site.
